Concept Developments

These are my development designs. I took theses square and circlell house the headphones and still be ok to vacuum form. Even though the forms are fairly simple the design does not need to be too fancy and decorative as i want the case to look minimal, modern and sleekl. From the begining i was looking for a simple but effective and practicle design. however i will look no further into the circular design as this was a downfall from a few people who complete my survey, i can only think that it is a down fall as most headphone cases are circular and they maybe looking for something abit different and unique in order to stand out from the rest.

This rectangular design is the development i choose to take further forward. I have added sunken slots into both the front and back in order for the webbing to have a better finish when added to the case and to hide it away also. The corners have been filleted but i think the case still looks too square as the design looks abit too much of a block and i developed this further more to get the correct form i was looking for in the concept.

i Then took a few of the leg concepts and modeled them out in cad. This gave me a better understanding of how the legs would look in size and form againts a accurate sized model. I designed a few large legs what was influence by the legs you find on cdj's and vinyly decks but these legs look to big for the case. Not all of the modelled legs have been sketched out as while i was modelling them on solidworks i edited a couple to give them a better look but had virtually the same form. The design i choose to take forward was the bottoms ones they are around 2mm in heigth and have a 70 degree chanfer for a better look and finish. Even though they are small they still do what i want them to in giving the user an indication of the bottom when looking at the product and to give it a better overall look rather than having no legs and been flush to the surface.

Now that i had my nearly final form the design looked abit too blank. The look as was looking for was a simple yet unique form with as minimal decal or features for the desing to look mimnimal, clean, simple yet be unique and look like no others. The designs i came up with will have the dj relating them to popular features within the music industry so that they can relate to the product. I did not like these designs too much as i belive it made the product look tacky. The market the product is aimed at i belive would much prefer a modern simple looking case rather than one with alot of detailing on. with a big detailing on the front this would also impaire or block the view into the case. It is vital to enable the user and people around to see and view into the case in order to show off and see what product the user has and with detailing on the top it would block and impair people from viewing in.

I also did a model of the foam insert that would be placed and secure inside the body of the case. This model is alot more neater and has clean and crisp cuts rather than my model i did what it quite crude as i do not have the correct equiptment to cut the foam to shape with a neat and tidy cut.

I had to further develop the form of the case after i did the modelling and testing on the original as the fastening features of the models where not practicle for there application as it took time to open and shut the case. I had to redevelop my form as the new fastening components did not work properly as the back rim of the case was puching against the bottom half and it wasnt opening properly and causing stress on the case as it was forcing against itself. i also made the case more pleasing to the eye as it has bigger chanfers on the corners so it dosnt look as "boxie" as the original development and i belive this gives the case more character.

This is my first attempt at creating a final form model for the old fastening case. The CAD model is not as good as my usual ones. This is because i have been learning how to use the solidworks software. I did this as i had to create a model on there in order to make a tool for the vacuum former. I also wanted to try this software as it is used by many professions with the design industry and is known as the best software for desing and engineering. I preffered this software to 3ds max even though it did not give me a better outcome, this is because i am still new to the software and it take some time to get fairly fluent in software as complicated and precise as this.
